THE 2008 HEALTHY LIFESTYLE CONTEST RULES
Sponsored by the "WHYSE" Partnership (Women's, Health, Youth, Sabbath School and Education departments.)
Healthy Lifestyle 2008 is a contest to involve young people within the Adventist School system or Pathfinder, Adventurer Clubs and Sabbath School divisions. from grades 1-12. The purpose of the contest is to encourage young people to think about their wonderful bodies, sign the *temperance pledge, and commit to a healthy lifestyle. Prize money will be available in all four contest groups and three grade levels.

Poster Rules
- Poster must be original and convey a message on physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual health. The poster must portray ideas that attract attention, provoke thought, and have public appeal.
- All posters must be 11" x 14".
- The name of the student/pathfinder/adventurer, age, grade, date, school/club address & phone number, and conference/union must be written on the back of the poster. A typed description not to exceed 100 words about the picture must also be attached to the back of the poster (parents may type grades 1-4, but it should be the student's own words).
- Suggestions for superior posters:
- Raised lettering, cutouts, arrangements and illustrations are encouraged.
- Any type of lettering is permissible. Use lettering that is easy to read. Generally the fewer words used, the clearer the message.
- The poster may be drawn on any color combination.
- Some photographic material is permissible.
- Attach a copy of the student’s signed pledge
Essays
- Topic: Any topic on health
- The essay must be written in the student's own words. Materials and quotes must be short, taken from authentic sources, correctly documented, and include bibliography.
- The essay is to be from 250 - 500 words in length, be typed and double-spaced. Judging will include grammatical and punctuation errors.
- There is to be a title page carrying the title, name of writer, grade, name of church/school/club & telephone number, and conference/union.There should also be a total word count at the end of the essay. THIS IS A MUST!
- Attach a copy of the student’s signed pledge.
DVD
This institutional category is set up so that winners do not have to pay the expenses of traveling to a conference or division headquarters. All submissions should be DVD.
- A speech/skit must be original and on the subject of physical, mental, emotional, and/or spiritual health.
- Factual material is very important. Source of facts must be stated. Current news and personal experience will add emphasis. Facts from the Bible or Spirit of Prophecy are encouraged.
- The duplicating or memorizing of a previously published article or DVD is not acceptable.
- A typed manuscript must be included with the DVD.
- A DVD must be no longer than ten minutes in length.
- Each DVD, cover, and manuscript must have the name, title, school/club and telephone number, grade, conference/union on it.
- Attach a copy of the student’s signed pledge.
Computer Generated Presentations
*This category is not open to grades 1 - 4
- Entries must be submitted on 3 1/2 inch floppy/CD or on a Zip disk (100MB) no more than 10 minutes with written script.
- All programs and file formats must be PC compatible (fonts should be embedded).
- Computer generated presentations are limited to slide presentations (Power Point, Corel Presentations, etc.) or computer generated graphics. Sound and animation may be added.
- A written script for each slide, with name, title, school and telephone number, grade, conference/union on it.
- Each disk, manuscript and any other component part must have the title, school name & telephone number, grade, and union/conference on it.
- Attach a copy of the student's signed pledge.
ALL ENTRIES MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ENTRY FORM GIVING ALL ABOVE INFORMATION.
Individual entries should be sent to your local conference, Department of Education, and post marked by March 9, 2008, and the conference should send the winners to the North American Division Health Ministries Department, and post marked by April 6, 2008.
